Mountains

I have mountains in me
Titans of fascination and wonder
Boulders in the slopes of a sandbox
Spilling over
Soft earth cannot contain these stones
The rocky terrain uncomfortable
But beautiful nonetheless

I have mountains in me
Worth climbing
Worth conquering
Breathe deeply at this altitude
The air is thin but sweet
The jagged edges are sharp
The incline is steep

I have mountains in me
Peaks aching for the heavens
Invited by the sun
Summits unreachable
Unless you traverse the depths
Roots of caverns dancing below
To music with scattered notes

I have mountains in me
Rivers in lush valleys
Bigness bursting at the seams
Cradled in still lakes
Pushed by wild streams

I have mountains in me
